Almost everything inside Gonarezhou is run by the Gonarezhou Conservation Trust itself, the ZimParks and Frankfurt Zoological Society partnership that manages the park, so your accommodation money goes straight into park operations. The clear community standout is Bosman's Community Camp, built with the Malipati Development Trust so that revenue flows to the neighbouring Shangaan communities. Look for the green and brown badges.

The Trust's flagship camp, on the Runde directly opposite the park's famous 180-metre sandstone cliffs. Six en-suite Meru tents with a camp attendant and chef, so it is catered comfort in a genuinely remote setting. Water is untreated borehole supply, so bring your own drinking water.

Chilojo Bush Camp's sister property out on the Runde floodplain, where nearby pans do the work of pulling wildlife past camp. The same six-tent, chef-and-attendant formula, and the same rule applies: bring your own drinking water, the borehole supply is untreated.

The Trust's mid-tier answer for groups: a whole four-bedroom camp with a campfire, an attendant to keep things running, and a proper kitchen you cater yourself. Masasani puts you near the northern gate, Mathuli deep in the quieter Mwenezi south.

The classic rest camp of the quieter southern Mwenezi section, and the best-value beds in the park. Eight self-catering lodges with fridges, standing fans and limited solar power. The south sees far fewer vehicles than the Runde circuit, which is exactly its charm.

The community stay: built with the Malipati Development Trust so that the neighbouring villages share directly in what you pay. Six Meru tents on the Mwenezi with a chest freezer, central kitchen and attendant, and a smaller satellite camp for couples and small groups.

Communal camping with shared ablutions · Chipinda Pools and Chinguli on the Runde; Mabalauta on the Mwenezi
The three serviced campgrounds are where most self-drivers base themselves: Chipinda Pools near the northern gate, Chinguli further along the Runde and Mabalauta in the south. Braai areas, ablution blocks and river frontage. Camps are unfenced and wildlife walks through at night.

Gonarezhou's answer to the sleep-out platform: three raised decks over water pans and, at Malugwe, built into an ancient leadwood. You bring everything and sleep under the sky while the pan below does its nocturnal business. Bhenji is the only one with a roof.

The core of what makes Gonarezhou special for overlanders: eleven wild sites with a bush loo and a firepit and nothing else. Carry your water, carry out your waste, and expect elephants rather than neighbours. Site allocations are agreed with the Trust at booking.

Gonarezhou is over five thousand square kilometres and its internal roads are slow, so the Trust maintains three simple transit sites for people moving between the northern Runde and southern Mwenezi sections. Basic in the best way: firepit, bush loo, silence.

The full-service option: a thatched lodge high above the Save with the park on its doorstep, plus a small seasonal tented camp down on the Runde. Game drives, guided walking, fly-camping and genuine cultural visits to Mahenye village. Not the only accommodation serving the park, whatever older guides claim, but the only private lodge of its class on the boundary.

Ultra-luxury lodge · Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, a private reserve adjacent to the park, not inside it
Be precise about the geography, because many websites are not: Pamushana stands in the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, a separate private reserve of roughly 115,000 acres bordering Gonarezhou, not inside the national park. If money is no object it is the grandest base in the region, with spa, boat cruises and rock-art excursions on the private reserve.

Rates are the Gonarezhou Conservation Trust's own published figures and operators' rate cards, gathered July 2026, quoted Local / SADC / International where the Trust publishes all three tiers. Accommodation rates generally exclude the daily conservation fee; confirm the total with the Trust when you book. Two names you may still find elsewhere, Mahenye Lodge and Senuko, could not be verified as currently operating: their websites no longer resolve and neither appears on any current operator list.
