What a visit to Gonarezhou actually costs
Two of you, a 4x4 with a rooftop tent, three nights at a developed campsite: about $875 all-in from Chiredzi at 2026 rates. That is the trip most people actually take, and this page shows where every dollar of it goes, then prices the same three nights at a mid-range lodge and at the fly-in top end.
If you only want the answer
For two people self-driving with a rooftop tent, three nights at a developed campsite such as Chipinda Pools comes to roughly $875 at 2026 rates: $624 in camping fees, $90 in conservation fees, about $24 in vehicle fees and about $135 in diesel from Chiredzi. That is before food, drinks and getting yourself to Chiredzi in the first place. The same three nights run to about $2,170 at a mid-range camp and about $3,630 plus flights at the top end.
Budget one: self-drive camping, the trip most people take
About $875 for two people over three nights, and here is the arithmetic. The camping line uses the Gonarezhou Conservation Trust's international rate for the developed communal campsites at Chipinda Pools, Chinguli and Mabalauta, which is $104 per person per night on the Trust's July 2026 rate card. The conservation fee uses the $15 per person per day rate for international visitors sleeping inside a park camp, from the official ZimParks 2026 tariff. The vehicle fee has no official published figure, so we use the middle of the $5 to $10 range that secondary sources report; confirm it at the gate.
We count three fee-days for a three-night trip. If the gate bills your departure day as a fourth day, add $30 for two people.

The Trust prices camping on a minimum-charge basis and does not publish what the minimum is for a two-person booking at a developed site, so confirm your exact total with reservations@gonarezhou.org before you budget to the dollar. Food, drinking water and the drive to Chiredzi are yours on top; there are no shops inside the park.
Budget two: a mid-range lodge stay at Bosman's
About $2,170 for two people over three nights. The obvious mid-range choice for a couple is Bosman's Community Camp on the Mwenezi, because it takes bookings from two guests and its revenue flows to the neighbouring Shangaan communities. The international rate is $320 per person per night on the Trust's July 2026 rate card, accommodation only, and you still pay the daily conservation fee on top.
The other mid-range option, the Mananga self-catering camps at $300 per person per night international (2026), carries a four-person minimum. Two people would pay for four, which moves it out of mid-range territory for a couple. It becomes good value again at full occupancy.

Bosman's is in the park's southern Mwenezi section, and we could not verify the exact road distance from Chiredzi, so the fuel line carries over the northern-circuit estimate. Little Bosman's, the satellite camp, is $160 per person per night international (2026) if the main camp stretches the budget.
Budget three: fly-in and top-end
About $3,630 for two people over three nights, before flights, built on Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge on the park boundary. It is the only private full-service lodge of its class serving the park that publishes anything like a rate: about $580 per person per night all-inclusive circulates from aggregators (checked July 2026), though a conflicting $150 meals-only figure also exists, so confirm directly with the lodge. Because you sleep outside the park, park entry for guided drives runs at the standard $25 per person per day rate (2026 tariff), not the $15 park-camp rate.
The genuine top end is Singita Pamushana in the private Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve next door, which publishes no rates at all; expect top-of-market, fully inclusive pricing on request. Inside the park itself, the Trust's Chilojo Bush Camp is $720 per person per night international (2026 rate card), accommodation only, but it books for six to twelve guests, so it is a group buy rather than a couple's option.

Whether Chilo Gorge's rate already covers park entry and vehicle fees for its guided drives is not published; ask when you book. Charter costs to the Chipinda Pools airstrip, which takes pre-authorised flights only, are also unpublished.
The fuel maths, dated
ZERA's ceiling prices effective 9 September 2026 put diesel 50 at $1.95 per litre; blend petrol is listed between $1.96 and $1.99 per litre depending on which tracker you read (both checked 12 September 2026). These are maximums, so pumps may charge slightly less.
Our estimate assumes about 400 km of total driving: the roughly 55 km from Chiredzi to the Chipinda Pools gate and back, plus around 300 km of park loops over three days. Gonarezhou's gravel, sand and slow going push a loaded 4x4 to around 17 litres per 100 km, which is about 70 litres, or roughly $135 of diesel at the September 2026 price. Chiredzi is the last reliable fuel, so fill everything there, jerry cans included; distances inside the park are long and the driving is slow.
Paying at the gate
Bring US dollars in cash, in small denominations. Fees are set in USD, but neither ZimParks nor the Trust publishes anything about payment methods at the gates, so whether card facilities exist there is unknown. Plan as if they do not; the card you brought will make a fine bookmark.
There is no online payment gateway anywhere in the system. Overnight stays must be booked ahead by email at reservations@gonarezhou.org (or gbc@gonarezhou.org for the bush camps) or by phone on +263 779 788 811. Day visitors are explicitly welcome without prior booking. One structural thing to understand: you pay into two systems, the ZimParks-gazetted daily conservation fee and the Trust's own accommodation and camping rates, and it is not stated anywhere whether the Trust's camping minimum charges already include the conservation fee. Confirm the total when you book.
Where the money surprises people
- The conservation fee is per person per day, and it depends on where you sleep: $15 for international visitors staying in a park camp, $25 if you day-visit or sleep outside (2026 tariff). A lodge on the boundary costs you the higher fee every day you enter.
- The vehicle fee exists but has no official published figure; the vehicle pages of the 2026 tariff PDF were blank when checked. Budget $5 to $10 per day and confirm at the gate. Vehicles over 3 tonnes pay more and face limited road access; motorbikes are banned entirely.
- Camping is priced per person on a minimum-charge basis, and the Trust does not publish the minimums per site. A party of two at a site sized for four to six may pay more than two times the per-person rate.
- Mananga Camps carry a four-person minimum, so a couple pays for four people: $1,200 per night at the international rate (2026), not $600.
- Fuel is a real line item, not a rounding error: about $135 of diesel for a modest three-day circuit at September 2026 prices, and more if you push south to the Mwenezi.
- You carry in all your own drinking water, since camp supply is untreated borehole or river water, plus all food; the last full resupply is Chiredzi. Count the grocery run as part of the trip cost.
- There is no published child rate on the official tariff sheet. Ask the Trust before assuming children go free or half-price.
